I think I have a soft spot for a specific kind of thought experiment, where the premise is interesting and dissimilar enough that you think purely within the experimental boundaries for a bit, before realising the setup actually strikes at some much more fundamental, unresolvable question about humanity; at which point you may just continue down the underlying philosophical rabbit hole, or return to the boundaries of the thought experiment, or — as I generally do — try to reverse engineer interpretations of the thought experiment based on what you know about the perennial philosophical debate, and just end up more confused, but a happy sort of confused. My favourite technologies were the delayed time travel, and the prisms.
